Environment and the Group
The Accord Group has a longstanding commitment to sustainability and aims to be the 'greenest' housing organisation in the country. We work with residents and staff to re-use and recycle where possible and all our offices and departments have environmental action plans.
We have won several awards for our approach to sustainability and the environment and were the first housing association in the UK to achieve EMAS (Environmental Management and Audit Scheme).
The Group was also the first housing association in the country to open our own timber frame homes factory. Called LoCaL Homes (which stands for Low Carbon Living), the factory can produce 200 low carbon, timber homes each year. You can read more about the factory here.
Last year, in partnership with various other organisations, we launched a pioneering scheme called ‘Green Homes, Green Skills’. The aim of the initiative is to cut carbon emissions and save residents’ money. The project has seen a dedicated Green Homes Energy Centre open in West Bromwich, Sandwell, offering households independent guidance on all things ‘green’.
