Floating support

Hand offering a model houseFry Housing Trust provides floating support to people who need help when moving into their own home or maintaining one they already have. The Trust’s staff are highly trained and are used to dealing with the queries and problems that can face anybody when they first take up, or are maintaining, a tenancy.

The purpose of the floating support service is to prevent homelessness, reduce crime and help people to develop the skills to live independently.

Clients’ homes may be council accommodation, housing association, privately rented, owned or temporary accommodation and we provide our services free of charge. We can visit you at home or in another suitable location.

The length of support differs depending on your specific needs and wishes. We will either support you directly or support you to find the additional help you need from other agencies.

Please click on the links on the left to view details of each of our schemes and apply for support from Fry Housing Trust.

Do I have to have my own tenancy before I can have the support?

This varies. In some areas, you can have the support as long as you have a postcode within the area that the support is offered. For example, if you are applying for support from Solihull floating support, you would need to have a Solihull postcode. This could be your own council property, private rented or staying temporarily with friends or family. In some areas, you may need to have your own tenancy first. If you are applying for support with Birmingham floating support, you need to have a Birmingham postcode or intend to move back to the Birmingham area from outside, such as from prison. If you would like more details, please contact the scheme.

If I move from a hostel to my own place, do I change keyworker?

This depends on which scheme you are applying for support with. In Birmingham, you can retain your keyworker. However, if you are applying for support from areas other than Birmingham, each type of project is funded separately so you would have a keyworker from the relevant new scheme. You would then be entitled to up to two years' support again from this new scheme.

How often will I get to see my keyworker?

You will have a minimum of one home visit per week, but support will be tailored to meet your needs.

Will I receive the same opportunities for client participation and involvement as your clients in supported housing?

Fry Housing Trust encourages all clients to be as involved as they want to be during their time with us. Please see the resident engagement section to view the sorts of opportunities that are available to you.
